# Delete your account

Export what you need, decide what happens to your teams, and permanently delete your CookieBeam account.

Deleting your account is permanent. Read this page before you start, because what happens to your teams depends on whether other people are in them.

## Before you delete

### Export what you want to keep

CookieBeam has no single "download all my data" export. Export each kind of record you need while you still have access:

| What | Where | Who can export |
| ---- | ----- | -------------- |
| Consent records | The banner's consent log; see [Consent records](https://cookiebeam.com/docs/compliance/consent-records) | Members who can read analytics, on Starter and above |
| Audit trail | **Audit log**; see [Audit trail](https://cookiebeam.com/docs/compliance/audit-trail) | Owners and admins |
| Form consent records | The banner's **Consent frameworks** page, **Form consents** tab | Members who can read compliance for that banner |

A deleted team's data cannot be recovered, so export first.

### Remove the banner from your sites

When a team is deleted, its banner scripts stop being served. Remove the CookieBeam script, plugin or GTM tag from your sites, or replace it, before you delete. Otherwise a site that relies on the banner to hold back trackers loses that protection.

### Choose the next owner

If you own a team that has other members, CookieBeam can hand the team to one of them. To choose who, use [Transfer ownership](https://cookiebeam.com/docs/account/team-and-roles#transfer-ownership) first.

## Delete your account

1. Open **Account settings** and select the **Security** tab.
2. Under **Delete Account**, choose what should happen to your current team, if you own it and it has other members:
   - **Transfer ownership to first admin/member** keeps the team and its data. The first admin becomes owner, or the first member if there is no admin.
   - **Delete entire team** permanently deletes the team and everything in it, for every member.
3. Type `DELETE` in capital letters.
4. Enter your current password, then select **Delete Account**.

## What happens to your teams

| Your situation in a team | Result |
| ------------------------ | ------ |
| You own it and you are the only member | The subscription is cancelled and the team is deleted with all its data |
| You own it and it has other members | Ownership passes to another member, unless you chose **Delete entire team** for your current team |
| You are a member but not the owner | You are removed from the team; the team carries on |

Your choice in step 2 only applies to the team you are working in. Any other team you own that has members is transferred, never deleted.

CookieBeam cancels the subscription of every team it is about to delete before it deletes anything. If a cancellation or a deletion fails, the deletion stops, your account is kept, and you see a message telling you what was and was not deleted. Run the deletion again to finish it.
