## Banner Display Issues

### Banner not showing on my website

#### Check if script is loaded

1. 1. Open your website in Chrome
2. 2. Press F12 to open Developer Tools
3. 3. Go to the "Network" tab
4. 4. Refresh the page
5. 5. Search for "cookiebeam" in the filter
6. 6. If you see a 200 status, the script loaded successfully

#### Verify Banner ID

1. 1. Go to your CookieBeam dashboard
2. 2. Click on your banner → Installation tab
3. 3. Copy your Banner ID
4. 4. Check that it matches the ID in your website code
5. 5. Common mistake: Using the wrong ID or leaving "YOUR-BANNER-ID" placeholder

#### Check JavaScript errors

1. 1. Open Chrome DevTools (F12)
2. 2. Go to "Console" tab
3. 3. Look for red error messages
4. 4. If you see "CookieBeam is not defined" or similar, the script isn't loading
5. 5. Load the banner script synchronously as the first element in the page head, without async or defer.

#### Clear cache

1. 1. Hard refresh your browser: Ctrl+Shift+R (Windows) or Cmd+Shift+R (Mac)
2. 2. Or clear browser cache completely
3. 3. Try in incognito/private mode to test

### Banner shows on desktop but not mobile

#### Check responsive settings

1. 1. Go to Banner Designer → Layout
2. 2. Ensure "Mobile Responsive" is enabled
3. 3. Test different screen sizes in DevTools (F12 → Device Toolbar)
4. 4. Check for conflicting CSS on mobile

### Banner appears but looks broken/unstyled

#### CSS conflict

1. 1. Your site's CSS might be overriding banner styles
2. 2. Add !important priority in CookieBeam custom CSS
3. 3. Or increase CSS specificity in banner settings
4. 4. Check browser console for CSS errors

### Banner shows every time I visit (not remembering choice)

#### Cookie storage issues

1. 1. Check if your browser blocks third-party cookies
2. 2. Verify localStorage is enabled (required for consent storage)
3. 3. Check if you're in private/incognito mode (cookies don't persist)
4. 4. Ensure consent cookie isn't being deleted by another script

## Google Tag Manager Issues

### Banner not firing in GTM Preview mode

#### Check tag configuration

1. 1. Open GTM Preview mode
2. 2. Look for "CookieBeam Consent" tag in the tag list
3. 3. Verify it shows "Tags Fired" not "Tags Not Fired"
4. 4. If not fired, check the trigger configuration
5. 5. Use "Consent Initialization - All Pages" trigger

#### Tag firing but banner not appearing

1. 1. Open browser console (F12)
2. 2. Look for CookieBeam script loading
3. 3. Check if Banner ID is correct in the GTM tag code
4. 4. Verify the script URL is: https://cdn.cookiebeam.com/banner/...

### Other tags still firing without consent

#### Configure consent requirements

1. 1. Open each GA4/Google Ads tag in GTM
2. 2. Go to Advanced Settings → Consent Settings
3. 3. Enable "Require additional consent for tag to fire"
4. 4. For GA4: Select "Analytics Storage"
5. 5. For Google Ads: Select "Ad Storage" and "Analytics Storage"
6. 6. Save and publish

#### Ensure CookieBeam loads first

1. 1. CookieBeam tag must use "Consent Initialization" trigger
2. 2. This fires BEFORE all other tags
3. 3. Other marketing tags should have consent requirements

## Consent Mode v2 Issues

### Google Analytics not receiving consent signals

#### Enable Consent Mode v2

1. 1. Go to CookieBeam Dashboard → Banner Settings
2. 2. Enable "Google Consent Mode v2"
3. 3. Save changes
4. 4. In GA4, check Realtime report for consent signals
5. 5. Should see "granted" or "denied" for analytics_storage

#### Verify GA4 configuration

1. 1. In GTM, open your GA4 Configuration tag
2. 2. Check that it's set to use Consent Mode
3. 3. In GA4 Admin → Data Collection → Consent mode status should show "Observed"

### Consent Mode signals not updating

#### Check dataLayer

1. 1. Open browser console (F12)
2. 2. Type: window.dataLayer
3. 3. Look for "consent" events
4. 4. Should see update events when user accepts/rejects
5. 5. Format: event "consent", consent_update ...

## Cookie Scanning Issues

### Cookie scanner not detecting all cookies

#### Multiple scan methods

1. 1. Try both automated and manual scan methods
2. 2. Manual scan: Visit all important pages before completing scan
3. 3. Some cookies only appear after specific actions (login, checkout, etc.)
4. 4. Third-party cookies may require user interaction to appear

### Wrong cookie categories

#### Manual categorization

1. 1. Go to Dashboard → Cookie Scanner → Results
2. 2. Click on miscategorized cookie
3. 3. Change category manually
4. 4. CookieBeam learns from your corrections

## Performance Issues

### Banner loading slowly

#### Optimize loading

1. 1. Keep the loader synchronous and first in the page head; exclude it from script-delay optimizers.
2. 2. Use CDN version (cdn.cookiebeam.com) not self-hosted
3. 3. Check your internet connection speed
4. 4. Banner should load in < 500ms on good connection

### Banner blocking page load

#### Synchronous loader

1. 1. Do not add async or defer to the banner loader.
2. 2. Use the canonical loader URL from the banner installation tab.
3. 3. Load synchronously as the first element in the page head, before trackers.

## Advanced Debugging

For developers: Use these browser console commands to debug CookieBeam

### Check if CookieBeam loaded:

```
window.CookieBeam !== undefined
```

### Get current consent state:

```
CookieBeam.getConsent()
```

### Check dataLayer (GTM):

```
window.dataLayer
```

### Force show banner (testing):

```
CookieBeam.show()
```

### Reset consent (testing):

```
CookieBeam.reset()
```
